Indias Modi Government – The Indian spies were expelled from Australia after being caught trying to steal secrets about sensitive defense projects and airport security, as well as classified information about Australia’s trade relations.
The so-called foreign “spy nest” dismantled by the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) in 2020 was also accused of closely monitoring Indians living here and developing close relationships with current and former politicians.
“The spies developed specific relationships with current and former politicians, a foreign embassy & a state police service,” Burgess said during his March 2021 speech at ASIO headquarters in Canberra.
They monitored their country’s diaspora community. They tried to obtain classified information about Australia’s business relationships. They asked a public servant for information about security protocols at a major airport.

Burgess also detailed how the “spy nest” had successfully cultivated and recruited an Australian government security clearance holder who had access to “sensitive details of defense technology”.
Government and national security figures have confirmed to the ABC that India’s foreign intelligence service was responsible for the “spy nest”, and that “several” Indian officials were subsequently expelled from Australia by the Morrison government.Indias Modi Government
The Washington Post also reported this week that two members of the Indian intelligence agency known as the “Research and Analysis Wing” (RAW) were expelled from Australia in 2020 following an ASIO counterintelligence operation. Details of New Delhi’s clandestine operations in Australia have emerged as Western allies become increasingly alarmed by the actions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
“I am not commenting on any action by any government, and you should not read anything about it, but I can assure you that if we see acts of foreign interference or conspiracy to do so, we will deal with it,” Mr Burgess told the ABC.Indias Modi Government
Pressed on whether he was ever involved in the expulsion of Indian staff from Australia, the ASIO director-general again declined to comment.
“We do not comment on specific operational matters but, of course, from time to time ASIO will discover undeclared intelligence officers operating in our country & through our actions or asking the government for help, people can leave this country and do so. ago. as a result of being discovered.Indias Modi Government
